The California ISO has the responsibility of managing California's wholesale power grid. The operation is extremely dynamic and must respond to the changing needs of open-market trading and energy consumption. As a result, the organization requires a system that is exceptionally agile yet robust and reliable enough to deliver one of the state's most valuable commodities.

Dan Yee, California ISO's CIO, is tasked with designing and managing a new multi-vendor Market Redesign and Technology Upgrade (MRTU) to address the need. This ongoing project is looking to extract the benefits of a SOA approach and is an excellent architectural model from which other industries and organizations would benefit.
