RF Magic Partners With ADB to Deliver Industry's First Set-Top-Box With Fully Integrated Silicon Tuner
San Diego, CA — September 6, 2006 — RF Magic, Inc. and Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) announced that the two companies are partnering to deliver innovative new solutions for set-top-boxes (STB) featuring the industry's first implementation of silicon tuners integrated directly onto the STB motherboard.
“Replacing traditionally implemented CAN tuners, ADB has integrated RF Magic's RF4000 DVB-T silicon tuner technology into its latest ADB-3800TW series of hybrid, digital terrestrial set-top boxes. The highly integrated and compact RF4000 enables sleeker, more stylish receiver designs with a footprint one-fourth the size of comparable discrete tuners.
“We are delighted to cooperate with RF Magic to bring this integrated tuner to market. We feel that our digital terrestrial customers could rapidly benefit from this new technology, which results in more efficient hardware designs and more cost-effective solutions for the competitive digital terrestrial markets,” commented Philippe Lambinet, CEO of ADB. “Our ability to develop software for exploiting innovative silicon technologies is one of Advanced Digital Broadcast's strongest assets.”
“We are extremely pleased to see ADB launch an RF4000-based product in what is a very short development timescale. This is a testament to the high quality and close collaboration of both companys' research and development teams,” stated Gordon Schenk, Vice President of Worldwide Sales for RF Magic. “More significantly, it is an industry milestone as silicon is again replacing CAN tuners as part of a bundled package, demonstrating the competitive advantages that silicon can now offer when compared with traditional CAN technology.”
Featuring RF Magic's innovative AdaptiveTune™ technology, the RF4000 was developed specifically for digital terrestrial television applications that comply with the international DVB-T standard popular in Europe, Asia, Australia and South Africa. The AdaptiveTune™ feature enables key characteristics of the tuner to be programmed via software to optimize front-end performance for different environmental conditions.
